I’m at the airport in Chicago, waiting for the first of my two flights to get back to São Paulo. Once I board, I’ll be away from the internet until tomorrow and will then focus my attention in the books piling up on my backpack. Brazilian writer Aline Bei is in there, as is Kate Beaton’s “Ducks” and Daniel Warren Johnson’s “Do a PowerBomb!”. The long and winding way back from a convention is often the time a lot of creators have to discover new books. Yesterday, after the convention was over and Jill and I finished packing all the stuff from her table back to her car, we were relaxing at the Hilton bar with friends and Skottie Young and I were recollecting where we were in our lives when we first read Cyril Pedrosa’s “Three Shadows”. I was on a airplane coming back from San Diego.
Below, some quick sketches I did this week of the friends I saw.
Do you want to know something funny?
I’m going back to Brazil today, but in less than two weeks, I’ll be back in Illinois as a guest of Reggie Con at the Illinois State University in a small college town called Normal.
What about something funnier?
Matt Fraction, writer of Casanova, grew up in Normal up until he was 11 years old, and it’s where he first went to a comic book store.
The two day event is free to attend, and I’m particularly curious as how the second night will go. They asked me to choose a movie that was super influential on my work as a cartoonist and storyteller, and that’s Kenneth Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing from 1993. Have you seen it? We’ll watch together there, and then I guess later we’ll talk about it.
Home
I miss home. It’s good to be going back.
My plane is about to start boarding.
Be safe. Be kind. Be curious.

I can never read on that 8+ hour flight, I always write like crazy or just marathon 4 movies back to back.
Thank you for the reading recommendations, I will read ducks but is a bit far in my list. Just finished On earth as it is in Hell (Hellboy) and The spirit of the Staircase (Matt FG)
