The class I’m giving tomorrow is prepared and I feel good about it, so I watch the time and see there’s still plenty of day to go back to the big story and work on it a bit. My iPad had other plans, with no power, so I plug it in and wonder what can I do while technology recharges.
Ah, I know.
Coffee.
My brother is about to leave the studio to go pick up his kids from school, but there’s still time for one cup of coffee and whatever we’re thinking about work at the time. In today’s case, we talked about the Umbrella pages he’s working on, and the announcement at NYCC that the VERTIGO imprint is coming back. I had heard from my editor at DC about this possibility some months ago, but only today it dawned on me the question: “will subsequent editions of Daytripper be published with the VERTIGO logo back on, or will they remain with the BLACK LABEL logo?”
So, my brother leaves and I’m alone in the studio. The iPad is still charging and I decide I’m not skipping this week’s newsletter, so I get my sketchbook out to do a Moon Girl. While I’m drawing, I search some podcast to listen to. I thought “Portrait of an Editor” would have an episode before NYCC, but no. I guess I’ll have to wait for one after the convention. What I did discover and am really looking forward to listen to (when I have more than 20 minutes of free time) is the newest episode of “Mangasplaing” where they talk about Daredevil: Born Again.
I ended up going to the latest Terry Moore’s Studio Sunday video and watched him ink a cover with a brush because I love inking with a brush, specially inking people, and he was one of my earlier inspirations.
While he inked his characters, I inked my girl sitting by the window.
As you can see, I’m still thinking about shelves, calculating how many can I fit in a wood board. I’m also still thinking about hanging paintings and posters on the wall, but I have to focus on the iPad charging up so that I can go back to the story.
If it all goes well, I’ll skip next week’s letter and just focus on doing some writing and some drawing.
Be safe. Be kind. Be curious.
Pa-ZOW!

Sorry about the lack of a new Portrait of an Editor for NYCC 2024. Personal stuff got in the way. I canceled my plans to go to the show, but Will and I have plans for a series of PoE's that will be much better than gossiping about NYCC. Thank you for the shout-out, Fabio!!!
