The program of the Galaxy Con Richmond is here! For many years as I was starting out and San Diego Comic Con was the only option for international wannabe artists, I would arrive in San Diego, go get my badge and then I would spend the day before the convention started looking over the program, checking out who was giving which panel, where each publisher’s booth was in the convention floor, and where the artists were (in those days, and mostly to this day in San Diego’s case, I would find the artists I admired in the small press or independent artist’s area, as the artists’ alley was very different from what we find in conventions nowadays).
I still check programs before conventions start, even if I’m a guest with a busy schedule, because you never know what surprises expect you at the turn of the page.
During the convention, you’ll find me at booth 943 on the convention floor (I just learned the number of the table looking at the program, and I went and checked the map of the convention floor to see where it is).
Jeff Lemire has a panel during Galaxy Con which looks exactly like the type of panel I would attend when I was young.
I wonder if this Creator Cave will be decorated accordingly.
What about Fábio?
Like I said, booth 943. I’ll be there all days of the convention, sitting at my table, signing any of my books you bring me, and doing some commissions. Depending on the weather, I might adventure myself outside the convention center to hide a drawing so the fans can enjoy a little Moon Art Hunt. If I can’t do it in Richmond, I might do it in Chicago.
Chicago?
CHICAGO!
Everybody going to C2E2 should stop at Jill Thompson’s table on Artists Alley. Her original art is drop-dead-gorgeous to look at in person, and she’ll have all sorts of products for all sorts of tastes. (the easiest way to find me at the convention is to look around her table as well)
When I was planning my Galaxy Con trip and realized C2E2 was the very next weekend, I couldn’t help to see which creators were going. The same way I was glad to see that I would catch up with Jeff Lemire in Richmond, I saw a list of friends who would be in Chicago that made me stretch my trip another week and go there. I’ve never been to Chicago, so I’ll be doing some sightseeing, but mostly I’ll be going to see people I haven’t seen during all these pandemic years. Besides hanging around with Jill, I want to catch up with Terry Moore, Jeff Smith, Skottie Young and many others. The fellow creators you meet on the road share a special bond, a connection and all sorts of stories with you, because we all had to go on adventurous journeys to share our love for comics, and as I made my plans to go to the Windy City, I came up with a panel to give there:
The friends you make along the way!

You can make comics anywhere you want, anyway you want. You don't have to leave your house to connect with your audience, with your peers, with the World. But what if you do leave? What will you learn? What will you discover? Who will you meet?
Comics can take you around the World to meet the readers of each country and other creators from all over the Globe, and Fábio Moon (Daytripper, Casanova) has spread his love for comics at conventions and festival from all over: from Argentina to Mexico to India to Algeria to Denmark to Germany to France to Italy to the UK to Canada to the US all the way back to his native Brazil. Along his many travels, he met many other artists, like fellow globetrotter artist Jill Thompson, and they became friends, and that's now Fabio ended up in Chicago. He will share some stories about following your dreams wherever they take you and how they have inspired real and imaginary stories.
Comics has taken me around the World, and I met almost all of my heroes, and some of them even became friends. As we come out the other way of our recent pandemic years, I want to tell some stories of the incredible adventurous life of the cartoonist, and I hope to see you there.
Be safe. Be kind. Be curious.
Pa-ZOW!
