I could easily forget to talk about it, because I’ve done this at the end of last year, and my brother did it in February after his second baby parent leave, but somehow, jet-lagged and tired, I saw somebody talking about it online and remembered to make a mental note that I had to write something about it in my next newsletter.
Bá and I have new pages done. Of the many pages of the many projects we have on our drawing board, these will be published this year in the Image Comics Anthology series celebrating 30 years of Image. I had to keep reminding myself about it last week at the Galaxy Con in Raleigh as both fans or fellow artists kept asking me what I was working on and when would something new from me come out. Matt Fraction wrote a new short Casanova story that we could both draw, and that reflected a little the correlation of the brother-sister dynamic of Cass with Zeph and Bá’s with me.
Here it is, the solicitation of the issue of the anthology our story will appear:
IMAGE 30TH ANNV ANTHOLOGY #6 (OF 12)
(W) Geoff Johns, Matt Fraction, Maria Llovet, Joe Casey, Jimmy Palmiotti, Skottie Young, Brenden Fletcher, Tim Seeley, Patrick Kindlon, Sina Grace, Dean Haspiel (A) Andrea Mutti, Gabriel Bá, Fábio Moon, Maria Llovet, Skottie Young, Erica Henderson, Nathan Fox, Stefano Caselli, Maurizio Rosenzweig, Sina Grace, Dean Haspiel (A/CA) Amanda Conner
As we hit the halfway point in our year-long celebration of Image’s 30th anniversary, MATT FRACTION, GABRIEL BÁ & FÁBIO MOON reunite for a new CASANOVA story, JIMMY PALMIOTTI & AMANDA CONNER bring back THE PRO, and SINA GRACE presents an all-new ROCKSTAR AND SOFT BOY short story. This issue also features the latest installments of “The Blizzard” by GEOFF JOHNS & ANDREA MUTTI, “Red Stitches” by BRENDEN FLETCHER & ERICA HENDERSON, “Gehenna” by PATRICK KINDLON & MAURIZIO ROSENZWEIG, “Hack/Slash vs. Image” by TIM SEELEY & STEFANO CASELLI, and “Dutch” in a new serial by JOE CASEY & NATHAN FOX. Plus: The final chapter of MARIA LLOVET’s “All the Things We Didn’t Do Last Night,” and the continuation of “Billy Dogma” by DEAN HASPIEL and “Stupid Fresh Mess” by SKOTTIE YOUNG!

One of the people I usually bump into at San Diego Comic Con is Jimmy Aquino. He' has a pop culture podcast called Comic News Insider, and while in San Diego, he usually covers a lot of the more mainstream Pop Culture events at the show, like movie and tv series junkets, but every now and again, he also finds times to cover comics (when he goes to more comics-only related conventions like TCAF, he can focus more on talking to cartoonists and covering comics).
I didn’t go to San Diego this year, but Jimmy sure did, and it was great to learn that he managed to cover two of the big streaming releases of the season that are comics-related: he talked with the Brian K Vaughan and Cliff Chiang, creators of the Paper Girls comic book that inspired the Amazon Prime series (along with the cast and crew of the show); he also talked with Neil Gaiman and most of the cast and crew of the Netflix adaptation of the Sandman.
Jimmy organizes a Dead Dog Party at the end on every NYCC in a bar in Manhattan, surely inspired by the traditional Dead Dog Party that happen on the last night of the San Diego Comic Con, organized by Graphitti Designs’ owner Bob Chapman. One of the few things I was really sad to miss this year was the LAST Dead Dog Party. It was the place to slow down and relax at the end of the con, and have the chance to see and catch up with other creators who, like yourself, were too busy working for the past five days. I wonder if something else will rise from the ashes of the already missed gathering.

I’m working on a piece that I’ll watercolor instead of coloring it in the computer. It will probably take the rest of my week if I don’t screw up. I’ll check back with you beautiful people once I have something new and exciting to share.
Be safe. Be kind. Be curious.
Pa-ZOW!
