I never take a sunset for granted. Every single one is a gift.
.
I managed to finish the graphic novel I was reading in December before I left for the beach. My bags were almost completely packed, I had showered and checked online how was the traffic on the highways that led to the coast, confirmed it was clear, confirmed with the Waze app on my phone, and then I sat on my sofa late at night – we were leaving around half past midnight – and read the last chapter of Rare Flavours.
.
I started the new year reading a new book. The algorithm of my friends was completely fixated on Miranda July’s All Fours, both because of the captivating story (it is, indeed, a page turner, and I have been devouring it every night before I go to sleep) and, in the case of the Brazilian edition my Brazilian friends were reading, because of the translation to Portuguese done by Brazilian writer Bruna Beber (sometimes, a translator can attract readers, similar to the way an artist attracts his fans to whatever comic book he or she is drawing, regardless of the writer).
I plan on reading more books this year. At least one every month. I wonder if I could do the opposite as well, and write at least one book every month (one chapter, at least).
.
.
Every story demands from me that I exercise a different creative muscle. I spent the last moments of 2024 getting ready for what this new year expects of me, and I hope to be in shape, physically and mentally, for the marathon that lies ahead.
Be safe. Be kind. Be curious.
