From the heart
We could all use more heart
I remember the puzzled faces of my friends Matt and Kelly Sue when they asked me what would I like for the welcoming barbecue they were throwing at their yard for the guests of Rose City that year and, after giving it a little thought, I answered “chicken hearts”.
“We could all use more heart”.
Most people will remember the wallpaper of their place, with its drawn empty frames which were open invitations for the guests to fill the inside of the frames with drawings, and the result by the end of that evening with a wall that had Craig Thompson, Mike Mignola, Gabriel Bá and many other artists’ drawings sharing one big composition (a wonderful and priceless “fresco-like” piece which sadly didn’t survive the house’s renovation a few years later), but I will remember first the amount of chicken hearts I ate just to prevent Matt and Kelly Sue to feel bad for ordering that many.
So many.

I have been thinking about the stories I want to tell, and what I want people to feel when (or after) reading them, and I realized I always aim for the the heart. More than thinking about what I want to draw and how I want it to look like, or about what I want to say and what will that make people think, reflect and question, I mainly create stories to make people feel.
I want a story that will sneak up on the reader like that feeling so strong that takes you whole, so I want the story to move fast.
But
I want that slow build like that feeling that grows out of knowing each other better, a feeling that only comes with time, because only time brings that kind of intimacy, so I want the story to move slowly.
It’s tricky. Contradictory.
I expect it will be hard until it’s easy.

"mirar o coração", também escrevo com isso em mente. Sobre esse ritmo mais lento : vi um documentário muito bom sobre isso nos animes, esse espaço "vazio porém significativo" era chamado de "Ma". Sou nova por aqui e gostei muito de te encontrar!
