This week flew by really fast. Bá sat on his EP chair for one more time and we watched a bunch of scenes from the last season of Umbrella Academy. It was a completely different experience this time around, coming for the ending of a season instead of the previous times when we came at the first weeks of shooting. The energy is so much higher, several units shooting at the same time, and everybody anxious to reach the finish line.
Anxious, and also a bit emotional.
This is it, after all.
We’re near the end.
The days on set were long. We were paying attention to everything we could, letting it all in.
Even though he already left Brazil a little sick and under the weather, Bá felt good on set, a proud parent of characters who grew and became so much more colorful than their paper versions, and that have inspired him and Gerard to up their games for the new issues of the comic.
(I’m curious about what people thought about the teaser story of Umbrella that came out on FCBD).
We spent half of last week in Montréal. We were both guests of the Festival BD de Montréal and we loved how cultural and vibrant that city was. As the summer approaches, Montréal opens up and get out in the streets, and the festival, which took place in rue Saint-Denis, wasn’t the only street attraction: food fairs, music performances and a mural festival were happening all across town, and coincidentally, we happened to bump into another set of twins from São Paulo with an internationally acclaimed artistic career: Gustavo and Otávio Pandolfo, better known as os Gêmeos. Before our festival started, we managed to stop by the place where they were hard at work painting the gigantic mural and we did some sketches of them while they worked. They’re probably still working on it, almost a week later.
We came back to Toronto. Our trip will end on the set. We’ll probably hear cut and then rush to the airport.
Next week, we’ll be already back in Brazil.
We’ll be back at the drawing board, where our new stories are waiting for us.
It’s our birthday next Monday, so I might skip these letters and just play it by ear on the day.
Be safe. Be kind. Be curious.
Pa-ZOW!
